Chapter 6 â Level six â Day thirty - part one.
Friday.
It was early in the morning when Ashton woke up. He looked around the small hut and sighed, feeling the weight of the day's impending challenges. Star was still nestled in his arms, her presence both comforting and familiar. As he leaned in to kiss her, she opened her eyes, a soft smile playing on her lips.
"Good morning, my love," she whispered.
"What time is it?" Ashton asked, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
Star's smile widened. "The time is 6:22 AM," she replied.
He nodded, slowly sitting up and stretching. His mind was already racing with thoughts about the forge and the troubles it faced. "We need a plan," he said, his voice serious. "I have to find out why the forge is failing, and I have to do it without getting involved with the queen and her guards again."
Star nodded, understanding the delicacy of the situation. She waved her hands, and the full-length mirror appeared in the corner of the hut, its surface shimmering with magical energy. "Do you want your portal to be placed here?" she asked.
Ashton shook his head, considering the logistics. "No, itâs too open," he said. "Plus, itâs a seven-hour hike back to the mountain. If the mirror is here, it will take fourteen hours a day just to travel to and from. We need to find a place closer to the mountain."
Star nodded in agreement. "So, we have to find a place closer to the mountain, where the queen wonât find it," she echoed, contemplating their next move.
"I know a place," a female voice interrupted. Ashton spun around, his eyes landing on a young female dwarf standing in the doorway. She had long black hair and mesmerizing green eyes that sparkled with a hint of mischief.
"What the hell?" Ashton exclaimed, his hand instinctively reaching for his weapon.
The young dwarf smirked, her gaze unwavering. "I wanted to thank you for saving me," she whispered.
Ashton suddenly recognized her as one of the four dwarf girls he had saved from the village. "Who are you?" he asked, still on guard.
She smiled, stepping into the hut with a grace that belied her small stature. "I am Gialia, but most just call me Gia," she said, hopping up into the open window and perching on the sill. "Gia, right," Ashton repeated, his tone softening slightly. "So what are you doing here?"
Gia's smile widened, her eyes sparkling with gratitude. "I heard you. You need a place for that mirror. I know a place. It's close to the mountain, and it's safe."
Ashton frowned, suspicion creeping into his mind. "And what will it cost me for this information?" he asked, his tone cautious.
Gia shook her head, her expression earnest. "Nothing. You saved me. I figured I owe you," she said. Then, she smiled again, a hint of playfulness in her eyes. "Well, not nothing. I do want one thing."
Ashton smirked, his suspicions confirmed. "Thereâs always something," he said, crossing his arms.
Gia nodded, her expression serious.
